Virat Kohli, on the cricketing pitch, is usually considered tough as nails. However, according to reports, the young cricketer recently got extremely emotional and broke down in front of his Bollywood-actor girlfriend Anushka Sharma.

A report in Jagran describes the incident which took place during India’s 2014-15 tour to Australia. The Aussies had already won the first two of the 4-match Test series – before playing out a tense draw during the third Test, thereby conceding the Border-Gavaskar trophy to the Baggy Greens.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had been batting on 24 on the fifth day of the inconsequential third Test – before the match was called off early. Even during the post match conference, there was no mention – not even a whiff in the air – of an impending announcement of Dhoni’s retirement.

But then came the shocker. The BCCI came out with a press release which said:

BCCI, while respecting the decision of MS Dhoni to retire from Test cricket, wishes to thank him for his enormous contribution to Test cricket and the laurels that he has brought to India. Virat Kohli will be the captain of the Indian team for the fourth and final Test against Australia to be played in Sydney.

The 26-year-old Kohli apparently went immediately to his girlfriend Anushka Sharma’s room – who, at the time, was accompanying the Indian team on their tour of Australia. Kohli relayed the news to Sharma, who expressed shock and surprise – before the cricketer finally broke down in front of her.

Virat Kohli claimed that this was a precious moment for him since he’d never imagined captaining Team India.

Kohli led the team for the first time as India’s captain at the SCG, leading by example to score a magnificent 147 in the first innings. Australia had made a mammoth total of 572 for 7 declared – yet, Kohli’s effort went a large and significant way in securing a draw for India in an otherwise winless series.
