Vishal Bhardwaj is leaving no stone unturned in making Rangoon look as realistic a film as possible. He has taken things a notch higher by using a live orchestra for the filming of certain performance scenes, instead of junior actors playing dummy musicians. Live bands are true to the era the story is set in and the critically acclaimed director believes that making these musicians a part of the film gives it a much desired precision and authenticity. Talking about realism, Bloody Hell even features Sunidhi Chauhan giving Kangana playback voice and you can spot the orchestra here too.
'Rangoon' is a period drama set against the backdrop of World War II and highlights a love triangle between the protagonists Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor.
The film’s trailer has already crossed 13 million views on YouTube, making the Vishal Bhardwaj drama one of the most awaited films of 2017.
Vishal Bhardwaj, the King of Adaptations
Interestingly, the song Mere Miyan Gaye England from Rangoon, is an ode to the Shamshad Begum classic Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon. Sung by Rekha Bharadwaj, the song is dramatically entertaining and has a desi appeal with Julia (Kangana Ranaut) going all out with her thumkas and expressions.
The song’s visualization has an element of comic relief in a film set against the intense backdrop of World War II. Veteran lyricist Gulzar and Vishal Bharadwaj are indeed creating magic with the songs of Rangoon, and piquing our curiosity before the film’s release on 24 February.
Vishal Bhardwaj has also recreated his old track Tippa for the Shahid, Saif and Kangana starrer.
A little known fact about the song is that it’s a remake of Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar’s Hindi dub, of a Japanese animated TV series based on Alice In Wonderland. With Tippa, Bhardwaj re-invents himself by giving a refreshing melody to his multi-starrer, one that gets even better with Farah Khan’s choreography.
