In today’s episode of the popular Star Plus daily soap, Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, the show’s leading lady Sonakshi Rastogi, played by Dipika Kakar, takes on the subject of sex education, with her mother Suman, and Twitterati is quite impressed that a prime time show is breaking stereotypes and sending out a important progressive message to the family audiences.
The episode, which aired on Hotstar this morning and will air on television tonight, shows Sonakshi encouraging her mother, who is uncomfortable talking about sex with her daughter, to not be so shy and discuss it with her openly.
The episode instantly became a topic of discussion on social media.
Here’s what happens in the scene. Sonakshi’s maid Muniya asks Suman to talk to soon-to-wed daughter Sonakshi about the suhaag raat (nuptial night). Suman starts the conversation, but becomes uncomfortable and is unable to voice her thoughts. Sonakshi takes the matter head on, and says, “Suhaag raat ki baat matlab sex education, right? So today my mother has come to talk to me about sex education.”

Sonakshi explains to her mother that there are many ways for girls to learn about sex - internet, friends etc. “So I (already) know exactly what you are trying to make me understand,” she says. But she explains the importance of parents openly discussing sex with their kids.
When her mom says it is a strange topic to discuss, Sonakshi says, “Yahi soch to badalni hai (This is the thinking that needs to be changed).”
Taking it further, we see her Suman get emotional and share her own first night experience with her daughter, while Sonakshi shares her own nervousness.
