If you are moping over having to wait another year or two for the final Game of Thrones season, here’s hope. A fifth prequel series is officially in the works at HBO. Thrones co-executive producer Bryan Cogman is penning a drama series follow-up to the Emmy-winning blockbuster in close association with author George RR Martin.

Cogman has been part of GoT since season 1 in various capacities, most recently as a writer and co-executive producer. According to Variety, when quizzed about his recruitment back in May, Martin had said that apart from himself and Thrones experts Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson, “I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he (Cogman) does.”

The four writers previously announced are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland (Legend), and Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers).

According to EW.com, HBO programming president Casey Bloys is likely to greenlight only one of the prequel projects and it wouldn’t air until at least a year after the flagship series concludes. And since it’s a prequel, none of the original cast would be part of it either. GoT is expected to return for its final season in either late 2018 or 2019.
