Kamal Haasan just teased Bigg Boss Tamil Season 2 with a 15 second video on Twitter. Unlike last time, he’s made this season the ‘People’s Stage’. How this will affect the format of the show is to be seen.
While Kamal acceded that his involvement in the episodic activities was minimal, he did threaten to quit the show last year when one of the episodes poked fun at mentally challenged people.
The first season had a surprisingly successful run on TV and on Hotstar. Rumours are already rife about the contestants for Bigg Boss Tamil 2.
In the first season, all the contestants, except Namitha, made an appearance on the show with host Kamal Haasan for the finale. However, the big surprise on the show was the winner himself - Aarav, who has been infamous on Bigg Boss Tamil for his ‘maruthuva mutham’ (kiss to heal) and his attitude towards Oviya, one of the popular contestants on the show.
Conservatively speaking, if one takes into account only the Indian franchises of global reality shows, we have been exposed to over 20,000 hours of programming already. Fatigue has set in with the Bigg Boss format, as well as its off-shoots like Roadies and Splitsvilla. Yet, the format will continue to garner eyeballs, for three distinct reasons: Sensationalism, sex and voyeurism.
