The last time he made a thriller, it wowed the audience, won the critics and grabbed several awards. But that was in 2012, and while we’ve been waiting for Sujoy Ghosh to return the big screen, he decided to thrill us again with a short film instead.

Ghosh’s 14 minute short film Ahalya is based on the mythological rishi-patni Ahalya from the Ramayana.

Ahalya also known as Ahilya, is the wife of the sage Gautama Maharishi. According to Hindu scriptures she was seduced by the king of Gods Indra, Gautama catches Ahalya and Indra in the act and curses his wife for infidelity. Ahalya is condemned to an eternity of being trapped in a stone sculpture, invisible to all. She is eventually liberated from the curse by Rama (an avatar of the god Vishnu). Sujoy Ghosh’s Ahalya sets this story in the contemporary world.

Ahalya starring Radhika Apte, Soumitra Chaterjee and Tota Roy Choudhury keeps you intrigued from beginning to end and has a eye grabbing performance by Radhika.
