‘Niche’ seems to have become a tricky word in Bollywood. Recently, SRK used it to describe Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Friday release, Bajirao Mastani. Soon after Shah Rukh’s comment, Mastani Deepika Padukone jumped to her film’s defence saying that SLB’s period drama is globally appealing and not niche at all. Bajirao Mastani’s release clashes with the SRK starrer Rohit Shetty film, Dilwale this week.
According to an Indian Express report, this is what Deepika had to say-
I don’t know what he (SRK) meant when he said niche but what I can say is both are very different films. I have worked with both directors (Rohit Shetty and Sanjay Leela Bhansali) and they have different things to offer. You can’t compare the two.- Deepika Padukone, Actress
In fact, Deepika thinks that it is indeed a good thing that audiences will get to watch two starkly different films this weekend. Well, what’s a little war of words as compared to the cinematic war that Friday will unleash?
