In an interview to Indian Express, Shah Rukh Khan has asked people to not read too much into his choice of roles. The actor’s reaction here could well be to journalist and author Rana Ayyub’s recent blog titled, ‘With 3 Muslim Characters, Shah Rukh Khan’s Big, Brave Mesage’ on a news website.

On his part Shah Rukh says:

You may write a piece from the point of view that I am doing three back-to-back Muslim characters. With due respect to my professionalism as an actor, I did not even know what my name was in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I just went for two hours, did some shots and had fun with my friends, Karan, Ranbir (Kapoor) and Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan). I wrapped up around 2 am and partied till 6 am before flying back to Lisbon. Don’t create a point of view. These are films which were postponed for two years. I would still like to believe that in this day and age, an artist is there to put across entertainment in the best way he or she thinks is possible.

Ayyub’s article had argued that ‘...the fact that the biggest star plays a Muslim in three simultaneous films is a strong message to a country, a rebellion that needs to be noticed and lauded.’

While Ayyub’s myopic point of view got its share of drubbing online, we must thank SRK for clearing the air here.
