Delhi Belly actress Poorna Jagannathan is making waves with her intense role in The Night Of, a new critically acclaimed American TV thriller series. The Quint got chatting with the actress over some nimbu paani and hot coffee.
The actress was one of the first few celebrities to have opened up about her personal experience of sexual violence as a child. She also initiated and produced the play Nirbhaya by Yael Farber.
Though Poorna doesn’t look a day older than 30, but she told us all about playing a mom to Riz Ahmed (the 23 year old protagonist) on the riveting show. We’ve also seen her as a fun, boho character in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, but off screen she’s intense, intelligent and extremely politically aware. In fact, she says that if she wasn’t an actor, she would probably be a war journalist.
