Bajrangi Bhaijaan is celebrating #Fastest150crBajrangiBhaijaan on Twitter in India, but the mood in Pakistan isn’t as jubilant for the film. Salman Khan’s latest film was cleared on July 13 by Pakistan’s censor board for screening and the chairperson of the Pakistani censor board, Fakhr-e-Alam, even tweeted about it.
But Alam soon began to be criticized for green lighting the film for a release in Pakistan.
Alam first began tweeting in defence of the board’s decision to allow Bajrangi Bhaijaan into theatres.
He also highlighted the fact that the board had previously stopped the release of Akshay Kumar’s Baby and would not allow anything that is anti-Pakistan to be screened.
But despite these tweets, the criticism against Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the Pakistani censor chief, who became a medium for the film’s release there, turned into regressive hate mongering, prompting Fakhr-e-Alam to post this tweet.
Fakhr-e-Alam also retweeted several positive messages that he had received about Bajrangi Bhaijaan to make it clear that there was a very small minority in Pakistan who were against the film.
However, when this tweet threatening to set fire to theatres screening Bajrangi Bhaijaan was posted, Fakhr-e-Alam decided to ask theatre owners in Pakistan to increase security outside their properties.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan opened in a record number of 80 screens across Pakistan on July 17, and as the tweets below show, there might just be a handful of haters across the border for the Indian film.
