We at The Quint thought we’d perk up your Sunday with some melodious Sufi music, and who better than the band ‘Yatra With Aanchal’ to help us?

Yatra With Aanchal is about folk and Sufi music that has been recreated in a contemporary style, while retaining the original songs. Songs like Ranjha, Heer, Challa are recreated by them for live set-ups.

Here's a quick glance at their Challa video:

Aanchal Shrivastava is the lead singer in Yatra With Aanchal, and she tries to sing not just Indian folk music but music from across the globe. The rest of the band comprises men, with their queen, Aanchal, taking people on a musical yatra through her powerful vocals and attitude.

The band features Lakshya Shrivastava, who is their youngest member and their Darbuka player; Sagar Raj on guitar, Atul Krishan on flute, Mahesh Chelladurai on drums, and Vivek Mayekar on the keyboard. The band starts with Sufi songs like Duma Dum Mast Kalandar and gets into renditions like Tose Naina Lage, Maula Mere Maula Mere, and then into their original songs.

Yatra With Aanchal has their own intellectual property, Yatra Original, which composes original songs in collaboration with multiple brands. These collaborations are unique and out-of-the-box. They are full songs, unlike brand specific ads, and their first collaboration is likely to be out in May this year.

Aanchal’s voice has a unique husky texture, which certainly makes the band worth a listen. The boys in the band are mostly seen donning Indie clothing and accessories, which certainly distinguishes them from current contemporary artistes across the country. The band is the right mix of vocals, sound, instruments and attitude.
