Father’s Day is here and we are all set to celebrate the day with plenty of gifts, cards and warm words to say to our lovely “Daddy Jaan”. But an event without background music doesn’t just work!

So, here we are with a compiled list of songs that would surely add to the joy of the day...

1. ‘Ladki’ - A Tribute to Love Between Father and Daughter

To start with, undoubtedly one of the best songs for the occasion that binds together the feel of a strong bond between a father and daughter. ‘Ladki’ traverses the journey of a young girl growing up with a promise of staying. Parts of the song, sung in Gujarati, highlight moments before the girl’s marriage where a father talks about her childhood and memories from the past but eventually has to let her go and wait for her to come back sometime soon! Yes, too deep!

Singer: Taniskha Sanghvi, Kirtidan Gadhvi, Rekha Bhardwaj
Composer: Sachin - Jigar
Lyrics: Priya Saraiya

2. ‘Papa Kehte Hai’ - A Father’s Belief on ‘Bada Naam Krega’

No introduction needed for this famous song from the movie Qayamat se Qayamat Tak featuring Aamir Khan that won Udit Narayan Filmfare Award for ‘Best male playback singer’ back in 1998. Been quite some time, but it still remains on the top of the playlist when it comes to Daddy Songs!

Singer: Udit Narayan
Music Director: Anand Milind
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

3. ‘Father and Son’ - Son’s Desire to Break Away and Explore

Another from the old books, a song released in 1970s is an exchange of thoughts between a father and son who cannot really explain himself but knows that it is time for him to seek his own destiny. This song surely sets the mood up, when you think it’s time for you to have some discussions about big future plans or it’s time you need to make a move on plans pending for quite some time now. (Careful though!)

Singer and Lyricist: Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam)

4. Father and Daughter -Beautiful Lyrics and Much More

Paul Simmons wrote the song for his daughter, Lulu. Don’t worry, you can play the same for your daughter as well. Yes, because it’s not just the kids doing it for the fathers but also the other way around will make set a perfect moment altogether!

Singer and Songwriter: Paul Simmons

5. ‘I Love you Daddy’ - Yes I Really Do!

Looks like Aamir had lot to do around this Father’s Day thing and thus makes another appearance on the playlist. The title song from the movie Akele Hum Akele Tum has been beautifully filmed with Aamir and his son exchanging words perfect for a Father’s Day Anthem.

Singers: Udit Narayan and Aditya Narayan (Fathers and Son duo)
Composer: Anu Malik

6. ‘Daddy Cool’ - Coolest Song on the Playist!

‘Boney M.’ Yes, that’s the group of singers who officially did bring Daddy to the Disco with this song! The song from the album ‘Take the Heat Off Me’ revolves around the lyrics ‘Daddy Cool’ and the disco beats do the rest. This song suits best when the party has begun and you need some beats to kick off the show. Oops! the video of course could have been better!

Artists: Boney M.
Song Writer: Frank Farian

7. ‘Bhaag D K Bose’ - Play This at Your OWN RISK

More than six years old but this song still clicks in when you think the word “DADDY”. When to Play: Only when the party is on full swing. Best Song in the list: NO Optional Song, can be excluded: A Big YES!

Singer: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Composer: Ram Sampath

8. ‘Papa Toh Band Bajaye’ - Story of a Strict Father

We all have that phase when fathers bahave as ‘School Principal’. Coz as this song says – ‘Papa toh band bajaye, Principal Khud Ban Jae’ (Papa takes your case, behaves like a principal). To pump up the party mood, the song fits in perfectly. A ‘hippy’ song with full on dance moves and party music will surely get the feet moving on the eve of celebrations.

Singer: Neeraj Shridhar
Composer: Sajid-Wajid

9. ‘Hanikarak Bapu’ - Another Strict Father!

This time Aamir is on the receiving end! Yes, his third appearance and the most recent song we have heard on this playlist. Dangal, the movie of the year in 2016, features this song which redefines a perfect father with strict ‘School Principal’ attitude that forces his kids to declare him ‘Sehat ke liye Haanikar’ (Injurious to Health). Side note: Quit smoking today!

Singers: Sarwar Khan, Sarfarz Khan Bawa
Composer: Pritam Chakraborty

They say Father’s Day is celebrated to recognise not just ‘Fathers’ but also ‘Father Figures’ who make uncountable contributions to our lives. Celebrating it one day in a year might not be enough to make it for those compromises made or the affection showered on us over the years but music just adds it to the moment! The Last on the list perfectly portrays about the countless emotions and million thoughts that go unexpressed by our dear ‘Abbu Jaan’.

10. ‘Papa’ by Neha Kakkar, Composed by Tony Kakkar

The playlist surely is incomplete without your comments! So share your favorite songs not in this list and add to the Father’s Day celebrations!
