It is fashion’s biggest night, the annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York City also known as the MET Gala. Entertainment’s biggest names were all there in attendance. While some tried to stick to the theme - ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ and made heads turn, other just made us cringe. Here is a lowdown of fashion hits and misses right from the red carpet.
The nude dresses were the once which got the temperature soaring as the MET Gala 2015 red carpet was rolled out. From Beyonce to JLo, Kim Kardashian to Rosie Huntington Whiteley all showed off their curves in their bold dresses.
But no one does it like the Queen Bey. Beyonce stole the spotlight from all the Met Gala attendees. The singer was dripping in multicoloured crystals, donning a body hugging sheer Givenchy dress that covered her assets in only jeweled embellishments.
You need to be bold and beautiful to show off those perfect curves in a red sheer gown and JLo did complete justice to this revealing Versace ensemble.
Does this dress look familiar? Well, this was not the first time this dress made a MET Gala appearence. Clad in a see-through and feathered gown Kim Kardashian’s inspiration was singer Cher’s outfit from the 1st MET Gala in the 70’s.
A pizza or a omelette? What do you think of when you look at that gown. Well social media had many such memes for Rihanna. The fur-trimmed yellow cape with floral swirls of gold was so long that it completely took over the red carpet. Looks like someone took the theme - China, and its artistic influence on the West a bit too seriously. The outfit specially came from Beijing-based designer Guo Pei
Well Rihanna was not alone, Sara Jessica Parker’s Philip Treacy custom headdress had several social media onlookers comparing it to the flame emoji and even cartoon ogre Heat Miser.
In a revealing Alexander Wang gown that showed off some serious skin, Miley Cyrus showcased her slicked back blue and green hair. She tried to hard to bring back the punk look but sadly failed.
While we are a fan of that short hair and Katy Perry’s usual flawless red carpet look but this one was nothing less than a disaster. The graffiti-print dress with long matching gloves looked like the singer was dressed for comic con. And showing off some major cleavage was the ‘Material Girl’ Madonna. The black dress with her latest album name ‘Rebel Heart’ written all over it failed to make a statement. The ladies in black bonded on the red carpet
You might not believe this but this was Lady Gaga’s first red carpet appearance at the MET Gala. She sported a head-to-toe Balenciaga ensemble covered in 14,000 sheared feathers and rhinestones!
Reese Witherspoon stuck to being classic than going edgy. But who cares she still looks stunning in this Jason Wu gown. While Kerry Washington made this satin pink Prada dress look fabulous, Katie Holmes donned a wig and a beautiful deep blue Zac Posen gown for the night. Perfection!
Kate Hudson paid homage to the form and shape of traditional Chinese fashion in this custom Michael Kors dress. And don’t miss the head gear.
Anne Hathway’s Ralph Lauren gown with a metallic hood was a bad call for the MET Gala red carpet. Gold, Lame and Hooded! Disaster!
In a white Vera Wang gown Selena Gomez looked like a bohemian bride but the hairdo spoilt the look.
Jennifer Lawrence wore a Dior gown featuring a sequin bib and a floral bodice. You got a piece for the museum right there!
