The Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese’s next project, Silence, has been in the making for nearly three decades. Finally, the trailer’s out and the film already looks like an Oscar nominee!

A historical drama set in the 17th century, the film stars Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as Jesuit priests in Japan, looking for their mentor (Liam Neeson), who seems to have abandoned his faith and gone off the radar.

The trailer seems to bear all the makings of a Scorsese film – palpable violence, an agonised protagonist, and meticulous research. Take a look!

The film has been adapted from a 1966 novel of the same name, by Shūsaku Endō. It’s set in the backdrop of heinous atrocities committed against Japanese christians during the Edo period in Japan.

Scorsese had known since 1989 when he read the novel, that he wanted to make this motion picture. But for various reasons, the project had to be stalled.

The film is reportedly slated for an end of the year release, so that leaves you with enough time to read the book and do some homework!
