Chiranjeevi as rebel leader in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.

Chiranjeevi-starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy , which released in theatres on 2 October, has had a promising start at the box office with the Hindi version collecting Rs 2.60 crores on opening day.

Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala has put the box office earnings from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at Rs 38.76 crores. He also noted that Sye Raa has earned $1 million in the United States, becoming the 50th Telugu film to do so.

Directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Ram Charan, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is set around 10 years before the uprising of 1857, and is the story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who led a rebellion against the British in 1846. The film stars an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Narashima Reddy’s mentor in the film, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty, Nayanthara, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi and Jagapathi Babu.

Sye Raa marks Chiranjeevi’s return to the big screen after he stepped away from cinema in 2007 to focus on his political career. The film has been well-received by critics who have praised his memorable performance in particular, along with the grandeur of the cinematography and its background score. The Quint’s Vikram Venkateswaran writes, “I tell you, there’s nothing more fun than to be sucked into the world of a Telugu megastar film. And this one’s the largest and most expensive film that Chiranjeevi’s acted in, ever. And the gamble has paid off.”
