Rajinikanth, Isabelle Huppert to Be Honoured at IFFI 2019
Actor Rajinikanth will be awarded with the Golden Jubilee award at International Film Festival of India 2019 (IFFI). On 2 November, Rajinikanth took to Twitter to thank the Government of India for the honour.
He wrote, “I thank the government of India for this prestigious honour bestowed upon me on the golden jubilee of the International film festival of India #IFFI2019”
The announcement was made by Prakash Javadekar, the Minister of Information & Broadcasting. He tweeted a photo of Rajinikanth with the words, “In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant. IFFIGoa50”
Javadekar also announced that actor Isabelle Hupert would be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for ‘Foreign Artiste’. He wrote, “Happy to announce that Life Time Achievement Award for a 'Foreign Artiste' will be conferred on French Actress Isabelle Hupert.”
IFFI 2019 will be held from 20-28 November in Goa. Javadekar also announced that IFFI 2019 would be consciously taking a step towards recognising women filmmakers and their contribution to cinema. This will be done by showcasing 50 films made by 50 women directors.

He also added that IFFI’s lineup will include Oscar-nominated films as well. 200 foreign films will be screened this year, out of which 24 have been nominated for an Academy Award.
