Kerala’s Education Minister PK Abdu Rabb has been in the news many times for refusing to light the lamp at functions as this went against his religious beliefs. But at a function to honour late P N Panicker, when Abdu Rabb declined to light the lamp, this irked none other than Malayalam superstar Mammootty who was also at the event.
Mammootty then reportedly told Rabb that lighting a lamp was neither for or against any religion or religious beliefs.The actor after lighting the main lamp had passed the deepam to the minister, who then declined to take it.
According to reports, the actor told the minister that it was high time the Muslim League stopped following such beliefs. He also reportedly added that he too belongs to the Muslim community and follows the religion, but still lights lamps at events. Congress leader P J Kurien who inaugurated the function extended his support to Mammootty and said yoga and lighting lamp was not part of any religion.
