We’ve seen several stories revolving around road trips with friends in films and television shows, but the idea of a road trip with your siblings was introduced to us millennials when the first season of Tripling released in 2016, starring Sumeet Vyas, Maanvi Gagroo and Amol Parashar as the three siblings on an unplanned road trip. Much like the first season, the siblings go on another road trip as a result of the circumstances they have to deal with.
TVF Tripling was my ideal go to for binge watching, and so the curiosity for the second season was really high. The characters of the show made me want to watch what happens next. While the defining characteristics of the siblings are largely maintained, Tripling 2 gets more interesting because of the development and added depth in the characters.
As hard as it is to imagine, especially if you’ve watched the first season, the ever carefree Chitvan is seen taking up responsibilities. Yes, he has the responsibility of a baby now. “Baba, you’re beautiful!” Despite so many responsibilities, Chitvan maintains his happy-go-lucky attitude, which makes him the most appealing of all, and he continues to remain my favourite.
Chandan seems to have his life figured out as of now, he is the author of a bestselling book about the previous road trip. While the book makes Chitvan look like the hero, Chanchal isn’t impressed at all. “Jijaji baanjh hai?” Chitvan’s iconic dialogue from Season 1, which Chandan includes in his book, is what causes all the problems for her highness Chanchal and sets the premise for the show.
The siblings traverse from Rajasthan to Sikkim, while taking stops at Lucknow and Kolkata. The episodes in Tripling 2 are longer and keep the viewers engaged as the dynamics between the siblings with contrasting personalities makes it hilarious.
A scene shows the siblings in Lucknowi attire, trying to speak the local language with the little knowledge that they have. Its elements like these that add humour to the show, for which writers Sumeet Vyas, Akarsh Khurana and director Sameer Saxena should be credited.
Tripling 2 has become become larger also in terms of featuring several renowned faces such as Kubra Sait, Shweta Tripathi, Gajraj Rao and Rajit Kapoor, who add to the narrative.
The production quality of the show also seems to have been improved. Wherever the siblings stop, their emotions and circumstances are also intertwined with the cultural aspects pertaining to that region. This is where the music and sound design comes into play, as quite evidently a lot of thought seems to have been put into it. In the beginning Rajasthani folk music and dance is used. As they move to Lucknow, there’s qawwali to be heard. In Kolkata, there are compositions in Bengali, and finally there’s Sikkimese folk music in the concluding episode.
The cinematography in this season of Tripling 2 is also much better with the drone shots truly capturing the beauty of all the places the siblings travel to. Better production in itself makes the show look more appealing. An insight into their childhood shown in this season is truly heartwarming and speaks a lot about their bond with each other.
TVF Tripling 2 maintains the narrative of the first season by showing a realistic bond between the siblings as they not only laugh and cry, but also fight through the situations they face. As Chitvan correctly says, “Crisis ke time pe toh family hi kaam aati hai.”
