Olivia Colman Debuts as the Queen in ‘The Crown’ Season 3 Teaser
Season 3 releases on 17 November on Netflix.
The much awaited teaser of Netflix’s The Crown Season 3 is finally here and it marks Academy award winner Olivia Colman’s debut as Queen Elizabeth II. She takes over the role from Claire Foy, who essayed the character in the first two seasons of the series. Season 3 will premiere on 17 November on Netflix.
The 30-second teaser talks about ‘the Majesty’s transition from a young woman to a settled sovereign,’ as said by the Queen’s aide when Colman expresses herself to be more of an ‘old bat’. The teaser shows glimpses of Claire Foy as the young Queen in portraits. Watch the teaser here:
Olivia Colman maintains the perfect poise and the stiff upper lip as the Queen. She’ll be joined in the new season by Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter and Josh O’Connor. While the third season’s teaser released, the cast for the fourth has already been finalised. Gillian Anderson of The X-Files fame will be playing former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and Emma Corrin has been cast to play the role of the young Princess Diana in the fourth season.
The show received brilliant reviews, both by critics and the audience, as it chronicled the life of the Queen from her childhood to her taking the throne.
In its third season, the Netflix drama will have a brand new cast, as the show moves on in terms of the age of its characters. While the previous two seasons covered the years 1947-1963, the next two will chart the course until late 1972. It’ll cover the rapid change in Britain’s politics - from the cold war to the space age.
The new season will tell how the royalty adapts to these changes, just like the Queen says in the teaser, “A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it, one just has to get on with it,”
