This is the night Bollywood stars have been waiting for with bated breath. It’s the pomp and plush night to put their best face forward, and walk the red carpet wearing their chic designer wear.
Unfortunately, for some celebrities, the red carpet is their only claim to fame, and they end up becoming showpieces affixed to plastic chairs, only to applaud the mockery that takes place on stage.
Over the past few years, Filmare has introduced new categories of awards. We at The Quint decided to innovate awards that could be handed over to personalities to turn their glamorous night into a memorable one.
The Bhaijaan Award
There are far too many contenders for this special award. New and old.
You’ll have budding actors and composers thanking Sallu Bhai for ‘giving them an opportunity...’ From Harshaali Malhotra to Sooraj Pancholi. From Athiya Shetty to music composer Amaal Mallik. From Arjun Kapoor to Sonakshi Sinha, all dedicate their award to their favourite Hero. While they all shower him with praise, the camera cuts away to the benevolent god (read Salman), who’s looking upon his children proudly.
This year, the Bhaijaan Award goes to Sooraj and Athiya, who miserably failed to match up to Jackie Shroff’s original – Hero.
New Kid on the Social Media Block
These kids need no introduction. They carry with them the power of their surnames. Making them the media darlings and kings and queens of the digital world. Just short of making their debut with the Johars and Bhansalis.
And the award goes too...
AbRam Khan!
The tiny tot does not know the spelling of media, but is already a big sensation in B-town. The little superstar has just started wearing baby boy pants, but he’s already the talk of the town.
Before daddy’s close friends Farah Khan and Rohit Shetty can even write a script for the young Khan, AbRam has reportedly already made his special appearance in Happy New Year and Fan.
And he’s already quipped by papa Shah Rukh Khan to be one-half of the next SRK-Kajol jodi, starring opposite Aaradhya Bachchan.
The Dubsmash Award
The Dubsmsh App has been tried and tested by millions of celebrities and common folks. But it was the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo team that actually upped the ante. Before the film even hit theatres, it was already a Dubsmash hit. If the support from the Khan-Daan wasn’t enough, you had the graceful Waheeda Rahman, Sridevi, the innocent Harshaali Malhotra, and the entire Dilwale team grooving to a song from one of the most sanskari movies of 2015.
The One-Man Show Award
It’s rare that a movie is released which is directed, written, edited, composed and acted in by one human. Only a ‘sant’ can do it, and that’s none other than Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief released two of his Messenger films within a year, giving the word bling a whole new definition.
