QuickE: Deepika on ‘Padmavati’ Row; Benegal on IFFI Fiasco

1. We’ve Regressed as a Nation: Deepika on the Padmavati Row

A decade ago when she forayed into Bollywood, Deepika Padukone never imagined she would work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Now, as she prepares for the release of the epic drama Padmavati, which clocks her trilogy with the filmmaker, the actress is confident the movie will tide over the controversy, hit the screens and win a “bigger battle” for the industry.

“As a woman, I feel proud to be a part of this film, and to tell this story, which needs to be told. And it needs to be told now,” Deepika, who plays the title role in Padmavati -- Bhansali’s professed tribute to the sacrifice, valour and honour of Rajput queen Rani Padmavati -- told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

4. Soha and Kunal’s Daughter Makes Her First Appearance on Instagram

Actors Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu’s daughter, Inaaya Naumi Khemu made her first proper appearance on social media. Both the parents shared an image of their daughter on Instagram on the occasion of Children's Day. Khemu added, “Wishing all the children everywhere and my little munchkin a very happy children’s day. May your innocence continue to inspire us to be better people #happychildrensday (sic).”

Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi’s cousin was born on 29 September, 2017, during Navratri. We got a glimpse of her in one of the pictures, Soha posted earlier, where Khemu was seen cradling Inaaya in his arms. The cuteness quotient is intense and the paps will definitely want to capture her charm in their lenses once she’s ready to make a public appearance.

As the Padmavati debate rages on, it seems that everyone wants to give their two cents to it. First, it was the Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti. Now, it is Subramanian Swamy, the Rajya Sabha MP, whose latest tweet takes a dig at Deepika Padukone.

“Cine actress Deepika Padukone giving us lecture on regression!! Nation can progress only when it is regression from her perspective,” says Subramanian Swamy on Twitter.

This tweet, we presume, is in response to Deepika Padukone calling the protests against Padmavati a regressive move.
