Monday, 10 June 2019, turned out to be a black day for Tamil cinema and the theatre world, as the much loved actor Crazy Mohan bid goodbye to the world.

Actor Kamal Haasan penned a heartfelt ode for his friend, co-star, favourite script writer and brother on Twitter.

Add a Crazy Mohan and a Ulaganayagan aka Kamal Haasan, and the result was always a laugh riot of witty dialogues and comedy at its best.

The translation of Haasan’s tweet:

“Of the many things I have envied in my friend Crazy Mohan, his childlike attitude that remained unchanged is the most important. Not many can boast of this. Many friends, in their bid to 'know the ways of the world', lose this wonderful quality along the way.

“'Crazy' is a word that doesn't suit him at all. He is a 'Gyani of Comedy'.

“That he has concealed his abilities and projected an affable, entertaining version of himself to the people is a fact.

“On many occasions, as an expression of love, he would quip that like Charu Haasan and Chandra Haasan [Kamal Haasan's brothers], he could call himself Mohan Haasan.

“As an acknowledgement of such a friendship, today, I bid him farewell by placing my hand upon his forehead, along with his brother Balaji.”

“There is no end to friendship. Does it last only as long as an individual lives?

“Mohan's comedy will live through his fans. I shall be one of the reasons it stays alive.

“His family is wonderful. No amount or form of condolence or consolation will suffice.

“I pray that they find the courage to bear this loss, and to make peace with it.”

Crazy Mohan has been behind most of the successful scripts – bromance classics –acted by Kamal Haasan.

Haasan teamed up with Mohan for the first time in the film Apoorva Sagodharargal in 1989, known to be one of the best comedies of Tamil cinema. Yet another masterpiece remembered till date is Michael Madana Kamarajan. The story is about quadruplets – Michael, Madanagopal, Kameshwaran and Raju – and it was Mohan’s dialogues that made it such a compelling comedy.

Who can forget the absolutely hilarious Vasool Raja MBBS (remake of Munna Bhai MBBS).

Sathi Leelavathi, Indian, Avvai Shanmughi, Thenali, Panchathanthiram are other movies that could have a houseful board put up, if played in theatres even today.
