It looks like the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has competition from the outside in India. Apparently, the makers of Coffee With D have decided to make certain changes to the film that they’ve been ordered to make by Dawood and his associates.
According to reports, the film’s team has been getting threat calls for showing Dawood in a humorous light in Coffee With D. The makers have reportedly decided to make the changes that have been ordered from the ‘D’ company before releasing the film.
CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani says this decision to incorporate changes from the outside marks a new low in the authority vested by the Indian constitution in the the Board.
We had no objection to the references to Dawood and did not cut them at all. We made other changes and granted the film a ‘A’ certificate. But now we are told the makers of Coffee With D are making the changes that have been ordered from the outside. So are we looking at an extra-constitutional censor board operating in India?Pahlaj Nihalani, Chairperson, CBFC
Coffee With D now opens, perhaps with the specifications from the 'D' company, on 20 January and the makers have released a new qawwali from the film to keep the buzz going.
