The popular young reporter and adventurer Tintin and his pet dog Snowy created by Hergé turned 90 on 10 January. And the good news for all Tintin fans out there is that there is news about the next big Tintin film. According to reports, Casterman, which publishes the Tintin comic books has said that a new film featuring Tintin to be directed by Peter Jackson is very much in the pipeline, Steven Spielberg will be producing the film this time round.

The first Tintin film, titled The Adventures of Tintin, made in 3D motion capture technology, released in 2011 and was directed by Steven Spielberg and co-produced by Peter Jackson. The first film was based on three of Hergé’s comic books around Tintin - The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure.

Finally, news on the second Tintin film.

While there is no confirmation as to which books the second film will be based on, there is speculation that the plot is likely to be a mix of King Ottokars Sceptre and The Calculus Affair.

“There are several leads that could be taken, the new film might be a mix of King Ottokar’s Sceptre and The Calculus Affair. When there is a trilogy in Hollywood, the second movie is usually a little darker, so the theory of an episode set in Syldavia seems quite likely.”
Benoit Mouchart, Editorial Director, Casterman

The Belgian publishing house also said that a new Tintin book is also likely to hit stands. Le Thermozero, a story that Hergé abandoned in 1960 after completing Tintin in Tibet could be published this year. The story is reportedly more complete than Tintin and Alph-Art, which Hergé was working on when he passed away in 1983.

"I would really like to publish it this year," Mouchart said. "It is a really interesting piece of work, much more complete than Tintin And Alph-Art" that Herge was still working on when he died in 1983.
