The film is reportedly based on a true story about certain events that occurred in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination on 31st October 1984.

Vir Das plays Devender Singh, a survivor of the anti-Sikh violence that took place during the period. The film also stars Soha Ali Khan in an important role.
