Worked & Repaid Everyone: Jackie Shroff on Bankruptcy After 'Boom'

'Boom', produced by Jackie Shroff's wife Ayesha Shroff, tanked at the box office and the family suffered losses.

Jackie Shroff opened up about his family's financial crisis after the failure of the movie Boom, produced by wife Ayesha Shroff. He revealed that the crisis resulted in bankruptcy but he repaid everyone he owed to clear the family's name.

"I knew that we tried something and we lost something. If I had to pay for it, I’d pay. I had worked as much as I could and we repaid everybody so that my family’s name gets clear."

"Business mein up down hota hi hai, yeh zaroori nahi hai ki hum hamesha upar hi rahenge. Kabhi upar kabhi niche hota hai (There are ups and downs in business, it's not necessary that we'll always be on top), but you need to know how to keep your sanity and ethics," he also told Bollywood Bubble.

He added that he and Ayesha didn't let the situation affect their children Tiger and Krishna Shroff. “My kids didn’t understand anything. They were too small and we didn’t let it get to them,” he said.

He also revealed that son Tiger Shroff had promised to buy back the house they lost after the bankruptcy. "I'm just proud of both my children. They are strong enough to get the house back; my wife didn't want it back. She said, 'Let it be, what's gone is gone'. But his thought was nice, his thought was beautiful that he wants to make a house for his mother and his family."

Tiger also spoke about the time in an interview with GQ Magazine, "I remember how our furniture and stuff was sold off, one by one. My mother’s artwork, lamps..."

"Things I’d grown up seeing around us started disappearing. Then my bed went. I started to sleep on the floor. It was the worst feeling of my life. I wanted to work at that age but I knew I could do nothing to help."

Boom, which released in 2003, starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Padma Lakshmi, Zeenat Aman, and Katrina Kaif. The film performed poorly at the box office.
