Can’t Replace Them: Varun-Alia on Comparison With SRK-Kajol

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are being paired together on screen for the fourth time in Karan Johar’s Kalank after featuring in Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The couple’s chemistry in the trailer has earned them comparisons to one of Bollywood’s most iconic jodis - Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

Varun, however, would rather fans view him and Alia as an on screen couple in their own right instead of drawing comparisons with SRK and Kajol. In an interview to Deccan Chronicle he said,

“I think it’s a big comparison for us. They have done seven films together and become iconic for all. I would not want to take that comparison because I have grown up watching their films. I think me and Alia are aware of the love we get from our fans. I think people like to watch us, hence directors cast us together again.”

"We can't replace Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's jodi ever. Imagine the impact of SRK-Kajol jodi as we are still talking about them. I take these comparisons superficially. I feel people should remember Varun-Alia's jodi as an entertaining one in Bollywood," he added.

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt play star-crossed lovers in Kalank, which also features Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha. The film has been directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. Kalank releases in theatres on 17 April.
