Meet the Girl Making Her Debut Opposite Tiger Shroff in SOTY 2
Along with Ananya Pandey, Tara Sutaria is ready to make her silver screen debut.
It’s not official yet. But conjectures are on that Karan Johar has almost confirmed the multi-gifted Mumbai girl, Tara Sutaria, for the eagerly-monitored lead cast of Student of the Year 2.
The campus romance sequel will be directed by Punit Malhotra (I Hate Luv Storys, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein). Tiger Shroff plays the male lead. Ananya Pandey, daughter of Chunkey and Bhavna Pandey, has also been penciled in to make her debut with the follow-up to SOTY, which made Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra attain stardom overnight.
It has been almost a year since the search was on for the right face and aptitude for the girl who is more than likely to become a teen sensation a la Alia Bhatt.
Ever since she was seven, the 22-year-old Tara - familiar in the upmarket theatre circles of Mumbai - has been trained in ballet and and opera singing.
Kicking off her tryst with show business as a veejay for Disney, she has recorded songs for Taare Zameen Par, Guzaarish and David, besides playing the lead in the Raell Padamsee produced stage musical Grease.
An early bloomer, she was seen in the title role of the series Oye Jassie, which however, ended prematurely after one season.
According to reports, she missed out on portraying Princess Jasmine in Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin, a role which eventually went to Naomi Scott.
Incidentally, both the Student of the Year 2 debutantes, Ananya and Tara were schooled at the Dhirubhai Ambani International.
Since months now, the Bollywood paparazzi has been clicking Tara, oftentimes with her steady date Rohan, the son of the late actor Vinod Mehra. Rohan is to make his debut as an actor with Nikkhil Advani’s Bazaar, which also top lines Saif Ali Khan, Chitrangada Singh and Radhika Apte.
Going by Tara’s photos on social media, and track record, it does seem that a star will be born in the Bollywood firmament.
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
