Suzhal: The Vortex, a crime thriller created by Pushkar and Gayathri, released its season 2 on Amazon Prime on 28 February.
The Quint spoke to Nikhil Madhok, Head of Original Content India, Amazon Prime about their faith in the series, things they are mindful about when green-lighting a project, and reveals whether he still gets unnerved despite releasing content every week.
Nikhil said they at Amazon Prime 'believed in the show completely,' "What we were also seeing is that stories, regardless of where they originate from, especially on streaming, where people are viewing them across the world through dubs and subtitles – in whichever form we make it accessible – the belief that the story could travel was strong, and we mounted it as a global show."
Speaking about things they are mindful of when greenlighting projects at Amazon, he said, "It's extremely crucial that the creators who bring us these ideas are passionate about them and really want to tell the story. That's the difference between great storytelling and just 'projects'."
He added that it's essential for the platform that female characters have "agency," "We spend a lot of time getting that right. There have been times in the past when we haven't gone ahead with something because it didn't do justice."
When asked if he still feels nerves before every release, he said, 'It doesn't get easy. Every weekend we launch something, and the nervousness is there every time. Not just for me and my team, but for everyone at Prime Video. I think it's a great marker for being invested in everything we do. Over time, we have learned to deal with it better, but the anxiousness never goes away."
