The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is ready to go on the war path with Sunny Leone. They have objected to the use of “Kaur” in the title of the actor’s upcoming biopic, Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone, which premieres on Zee5 on 16 July.

Diljit Singh Bedi, SGPC’s additional secretary and spokesperson, told Times of India that the usage would hurt Sikh sentiments as Sunny did not follow the teachings of the Sikh gurus. Hence, she had no right to use the title “Kaur”.

Kaur is a very respectable name given by Sikh gurus to Sikh women. A person who didn’t follow the teachings of Sikh gurus shouldn’t use the word Kaur as this could hurt Sikh religious feelings. Sikhs will not allow her to use it. She should tender a public apology.

Bibi Jagir Kaur, president of the Istri Akali Dal, echoed Bedi.

She is using the word Kaur for making her biopic a success, unaware of the fact that the same could hurt religious sentiments.

The Sunny Leone biopic web series stars the actor herself and is being directed by Aditya Datt.
