Sagarika Ghatge is best known for her role in Chak De! India as Preeti Sabarwal, a passionate hockey player of the Indian Women’s Hockey team. In Chak De!,the actor was the fiancee of the vice captain of the men’s Indian Cricket team. Ironically, Sagarika is now married to Zaheer Khan, a celebrated bowler in the Indian cricket team.
Talk about reel and real overlapping! However, thankfully, the character traits of her reel life fiance and her real life husband are poles apart.
The Reel Dude
In Chak De! India, Sagarika was a passionate hockey player, breaking all boundaries to get her game on point. But her fiance Abhimanyu Singh (Vivan Bhatena) doesn’t look very impressed with the career choice of his girlfriend. His synonym for hockey is gulli danda.
In the film Abhimanyu is a chauvinist, a cricketer biased towards his game, brushing away hockey. He asks Preeti to make a choice between hockey and their relationship. No prizes for guessing which one the girl chose!
Preeti goes on to play the Hockey World Cup in Australia and takes the cup home. The tables do turn, as with the big win, the entire country chants her name. Abhimanyu, who earlier was against her playing at all, proposes to her when she returns. Preeti who had already learnt her lesson, rejects him.
The Real Man
Sagarika, who is now happily married to Zaheer Khan in real life, looks super excited about her wedding - check out her social media updates if you want proof! Sagarika got engaged to Zaheer Khan in March 2017 and the couple tied the knot on 23 November.
