Producer Ronnie Screwvala has recently taken to Twitter to call out trade analysts Taran Adarsh and Komal Nahta for inflating the box office figures of films. “ Isn’t it time everyone reports Box Office numbers accurately! Komal Nahta and Taran Adarsh... accuracy of information builds CREDIBILITY which the movie industry needs so badly ... and not sure how long-to appease egos will Studios and all keep encouraging pumped up data on numbers,” Ronnie tweeted.
He followed it up with another tweet clarifying that it is not directed at any specific film. “Just to clarify that my tweet was not directed at any one movie ( as is being wrongly assumed ) but just an overall comment for the future + my reasons to tag some of the industry authorities was because they can make a difference to the credibility,” he added.
Movie trade analyst Girish Johar supported Screwvala, pointing out that sharing “inflated figures has become a norm.”
Another noted film distributor, Akshaye Rathi wrote that these numbers do not need to be made available to the public. He was of the view that sharing the same created more chaos than good.
A few days back Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull 4 topped Twitter trends in India when it flashed on not one but two positions on the chart. Housefull 4 was featured in two trends - ‘FAKE HOUSEFULL4 FIGURES’ and ‘PAID NEGATIVITY ON HF4’.
One section of social media users were of the opinion that box office figures of the fourth installment of the Housefull franchise are fake. 'FAKE HOUSEFULL4 FIGURES' was a trend. Countering this trend was another hashtag that made headlines.
