India Today reports that veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee and her husband Jayanta Mukherjee on Thursday, 22 November moved the Bombay High Court demanding access to their comatose daughter. They sought "physical custody to enable them to take care of her'' while claiming that their son-in-law, Dicky Sinha was not allowing them to see their 44-year-old daughter, Payal, who has been in coma since April 2017.
The division bench hearing the case reportedly comprised Justices B P Dharmadhikari and S V Kotwal. The actor in her plea contended that they were not permitted to visit their daughter after her discharge from the hospital in April 2018. They also allege that her physiotherapy treatment has been halted and that they have been kept in the dark about her current medical condition as their son-in-law refused to part with the relevant papers. Dicky also reportedly stopped paying the staff caring for their daughter. Dicky and Payal tied the knot in 2010.
With senior counsel Beni Chatterjee, appearing for the actor and advocate Samarth Moray filing the statement, a police complaint has also been reportedly filed at Khar police station on 20 November.
Moushumi Chatterjee and Jayanta Mukherjee have requested the Bombay HC that they be appointed as their daughter’s guardians.
