In April 2018, Pakistani singer Ali Zafar was accused of sexual harassment by a bunch of Pakistani women, including Meesha Shafi who was the first one to publically call him out for his actions. Ali Zafar denied the allegations, and later filed a defamation suit against the artist.

On Monday, Nighat Dad, a member of Meesha Shafi’s legal team, released an official statement directed towards Ali Zafar. In the statement, the team has made it clear that Meesha Shafi will be handling the situation legally through court. It is also stated that since Meesha is speaking the truth, the court can’t hold her guilty of defamation.

Addressing Meesha’s comparison to Malala, the statement says that the actor is implying that Malala, a Nobel Laureate who is an inspiration to women worldwide, got fame by making false and defamatory statements.

The statement also sheds light on the Canadian immigration issue by stating the fact that Meesha Shafi has held a Canadian resident card since 2016 and hence it’s incorrect of Ali Zafar to say that she made those allegations to get international fame and Canadian immigration.

In the statement, Meesha Shafi’s team member urges Ali Zafar to come out and take responsibility for his actions by apologising to Meesha.

This statement comes after Ali Zafar’s statement on Twitter in which he says that “Meesha Shafi’s case against me has been DISMISSED alongside the appeal made against the dismissal. The case in the court is my case against her to pay for the damages that her false statement has caused me, which naturally she is trying to run away from.

I have also filed a case against all the fake and other accounts being used to run a campaign against me on social media.”
