Didn’t Like ‘Firangi’? Don’t Tell Kapil Sharma

Everyone in India is a film critic, says the comedian-turned-actor.

Kapil Sharma’s Firangi is not doing too well at the box office and word of mouth is not helping either. And it seems to be on Kapil’s mind. The comedian-turned-actor, in an interview with News18 India, several times broached the theme of how everyone in India is a critic and that people criticise a film without knowing anything about the subject.

“People who watch only Hollywood films take it upon themselves to share their opinion about Bollywood movies. One person would say, it’s unacceptable that a girl and a boy don’t even hold hands. I have made the film for the masses, let them decide. These things hurt a lot. My BP increased and I couldn’t make it to an event that day... sometimes I say nothing, sometimes I tweet straight to the Prime Minister... phir ulta meri lag jaati hai.”

“Indians are always looking for faults. Especially women have a problem with my accent. But foreigners don’t pay so much attention to these things. Indians are always looking for faults. I feel more comfortable with foreigners.. I have no trouble connecting with people like Chris Gayle and Bret Lee.”

“I will accept criticism from someone like Ramesh Sippy who made Sholay or other good critics. But now everyone is a critic. May be someone likes seeing gandi films and he’s wondering what sort of a film this is where the hero doesn’t even hold hands with the heroine. He is saying, there is nothing in the movie. Let people go and watch for themselves! A film requires a lot of work. But these things don’t intimidate me. I will keep doing what I want to do.”
