Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel has slammed the National Commission for Women India (NCW) for its response to actor Vivek Oberoi’s now deleted tweet of a meme featuring Aishwarya Rai.

On Monday, 20 May, Vivek shared a meme that compared the stages of election polls to ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai and her relationships. It labeled photos of Aishwarya with Salman Khan, Vivek and husband Abhishek Bachchan as ‘opinion poll’, ‘exit poll’ and ‘result’ respectively.

The tweet prompted criticism from several Twitter users for being misogynistic and distasteful. In response, the National Commission for Women issued a notice to Vivek Oberoi asking him to offer a satisfactory explanation for his actions, saying that the tweet was “offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general.”

Rangoli lashed out at the NCW for taking undue notice of a seemingly frivolous matter. She alleged that the commission “refused to take Kangana’s complaint against a big star” but was leapt at the opportunity to go after Vivek Oberoi’s “stupid joke” instead.

“Fraud @IndiaMeToo & @NCWIndia has caused death f feminism in India, accused working everywhere & roaming freely, chauvinism & gender bias displayed openly & here for a stupid joke they come crawling like insects as if anybody cares about such a sham NCWI please take a seat,” she wrote.

“I will never forget how they refused to take Kangana’s complaint against a big star, but come to fight for these childish jokes when so many rape and harassment cases are lying unaddressed #Shame” she added.

Vivek was initially unapologetic and said that he hadn’t done anything wrong, but in light of the criticism he faced, he later took down the tweet saying, “Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies, tweet deleted.”
