Kangana Ranaut, who is set to play the late Jayalalithaa in biopic Thalaivi, spent a few moments of silence on the sets of the film to honour the death anniversary of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister. The actor’s team shared a picture of Kangana offering flowers to a portrait of the actor-turned-politician.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo hospital in Chennai on 22 September, 2016 and passed away on 5 December.

Kangana’s look from the film was also recently revealed, in which she is seen in a green cape and a circular bindi.

A teaser was also released, which offered glimpses of Kangana as Jayalalithaa in her younger days.

Directed by AL Vijay, Thalaivi also stars Roja actor Arvind Swamy, who will play late actor and AIADMK leader MG Ramachandran in the biopic. The film will release in Hindi and Tamil on 26 June, 2020.

Thalaivi could be headed for trouble as the Madras High Court, on 26 November, granted Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa, permission to file a civil suit against the makers of the biopic as well as other works based on Jayalalithaa’s life. She had earlier claimed that she is the legal heir of the former AIADMK chief and objected to the film’s production on several grounds. She stated that the makers did not have the legal right to make a film on Jayalalithaa’s life and did not attempt to seek legal permission from her either. She also felt that it would threaten her family’s privacy, and has claimed that the filmmakers were releasing the film purely for monetary benefits. Deepa has demanded that the full script of Thalaivi be submitted to her and that her permission be sought for the same.
