NTR Jr, the Bigg Boss of Telugu is back on the silver screen with his latest triple action blockbuster Jai Lava Kusa. Set to release on 21 September, it’s got all the makings of an entertainer driven by dance and action, and a unique brand of acting that NTR Jr has carved for himself.

From Rama to Raavana

NTR Jr debuted as a 13-year-old Ram in Bala Ramayanam (1996), a mythological drama, where all of the characters are played by children and teenagers. He then waited out the pimples and the angst, and debuted again with Student No.1 (2001), which was also director SS Rajamouli’s (Baahubali) debut film.

Whether you’re a believer of genetic-talent-transfer or not, the similarities in appearance and acting chops with his multi-award winning actor grandfather (NT Rama Rao) is unmissable.

NTR Jr plays three characters in the movie; Jai, Lava and Kusa. Let’s not speculate on what the story is. It’ll spoil the fun and there’s every possibility that there may not actually be a story to speculate on.

What’s more interesting to watch, is that ‘Jai’ the badass character you’ve seen in the teaser above, has a stutter. It’s actually extremely difficult to pull of a genuine stutter, without making it funny. Speech therapists, and those who overcame their impediment will tell you that it’s not in the tongue or lips, but in the mind, and the way you take in your breath. NTR Jr, and whoever’s helping him get into the groove, has noticed this. Nice!

The other characters are big on dance and masala dialogues. If you’re the average weekend audience looking to unwind, you won’t complain.

There are subtle differences in body language in all of the three characters. If he’s able to pull this off throughout the movie, that’ll be an achievement in itself. But if Bigg Boss Telugu is any indication, we can expect him to over-prepare, and deliver an above-par fare.

At the end of the day, it’s still a masala film, but mix of spices marks the difference between parathe wali galli and Sector 124, Noida.
