Here’s What Goes into Designing Amitabh’s Iconic Suits on KBC

One of the many things that makes Kaun Banega Crorepati the superhit TV show it is today is host Amitabh Bachchan ever-elegant sense of style. Speaking to a news daily, designer Priya Patil shared that a lot of thought, work and detail goes into Amitabh’s striking look for the show, everything down to imported fabric and buttons.

Priya has been styling Amitabh on the show or the past seven years and has been his personal designer for the last two. Every season, Amitabh and Priya try to bring a unique element to his wardrobe for the show. This has included everything from formal blazers, quirky ties to patterned scarves. Last season, Amitabh wore brooch pins and in season 11 he plans to show off different kinds of tie knots.

Priya told DNA about her process, what goes into designing for Amitabh and a few unknown tidbits about his wardrobe. She revealed that all the fabric for his suits is imported from Italy since Big B prefers clothing with a 120 thread count.

“The fabric has a nice fall and I look for checks and solid colours. Even the buttons are imported. We do a lot of trials and fittings,”

Priya said that she brought in three-piece suits for the first time on the show last year, but it was Amitabh’s idea to wear a brooch pin on his tie, inspired by Prince Harry at his royal wedding.

Initially, I found it difficult to find it in the fashion stores, but after Prince Harry introduced it and Bachchan wore it in the promo of KBC, it became a trend within a week’s time, and shops started stocking it.

Priya added that Amitabh likes to carry deep colours like black and wine. She expanded on the kind of tie knots she plans to introduce in season 11.

This year, we will continue with the three-piece suit, but will experiment with different techniques of tie knots like the Eldredge knot, Trinity knot, Rose knot, Resurrection knot, etc.

Kaun Banega Crorepati season 11 is expected to start airing in August on Sony.
