Actor Fan Bingbing, a prominent star in China who has also featured in Hollywood blockbusters, has reportedly gone missing from the public eye which has left her fans worried.
Now, rumours are growing strong that she might have been arrested by Chinese authorities for tax evasion based on a 0 per cent (out of 100) “social responsibility” rating by the government. The rating system for celebrities is based on their professional lives, charitable work and “personal integrity”.
According to BBC, the 36-year-old actor, considered one of the highest earners in the world, has not been seen in the public since July 1 when she visited a children's hospital.
Fan, who has close to 62 million followers on Chinese social media platform Weibo, has also not posted on her account since 23 July, when she "liked" a number of posts.
In May this year, the X-Men: Days of Future Past star was accused by a prominent TV presenter of tax evasion which led to a probe against her.
A report in the Securities Daily newspaper last week said she had been put “under control” and would “accept the legal judgement”, even though she has not been formally accused of any crime.. The article was taken down shortly soon after it was posted.
