So a beautiful girl hangs out with a good looking guy in New York and their photo is taken while they were smoking a cigarette. Sounds pretty normal. Right?
Apparently NOT.
’Cuz we aren’t talking about any aam janta chilling in New York. The woman in the picture is none other than the Pakistani actor, Mahira Khan and the dude is Kapoor khandaan ka flamboyant beta, Ranbir Kapoor. Not to forget, the controversial photos in news that we are talking about in September were taken in July and have suddenly made its way on to the web on Thursday.
All hell broke loose, gossip mills were running overtime and the troll brigade was charged like a “pack of hyenas”. Soon Mahira Khan became the favourite ‘Zaalima’ of Twitterati but for what, we still don’t know. Is it because she’s a woman pictured having a smoke? Or, is it because she was wearing a cute white backless dress? Or, might it be because the two people in the photograph belong to countries that are not best of friends?
Just like us, it seem Pakistani singer-cum-actor, Ali Zafar had had enough of the trending hashtag #MahiraKhan and decided to pen an open letter to Mahira and shut the trolls up.
“Every woman has the right to make her own choices in life (as long as she’s not hurting anyone else) just like we men do. How we react defines our own character. Choose wisely, for we shall be judged,” wrote Ali Zafar in his letter.
Thank you Ali Zafar, we really needed someone to put an end to all the moral policing going around on social media.
It looks like our prayers had been heard, and the sane voices online came out openly and supported Mahira.
