On Wednesday, Mission Mangal actor Akshay Kumar surprised the residents of Mumbai by taking the Mumbai metro from Ghatkopar to Versova. He even took to Twitter to share the experience with his fans by posting a selfie video from the metro itself.
However, this traffic hack that Akshay discovered on 18 September, doesn’t seem to be going well with users on Twitter who’ve noticed that just a day prior to Akshay’s tweet, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan too shared a similar experience on Twitter. Bachchan tweeted about how a friend of his had a medical emergency and in order to make it to the hospital in time, they decided to take the metro instead of the car.
He wrote, “Friend of mine had a medical emergency, decided to take METRO instead of his car .. came back very impressed .. said was faster, convenient and most efficient .. Solution for Pollution .. Grow more trees .. I did in my garden .. have you”
While the two tweets could simply be a case of coincidence, many netizens have an alternative theory in mind. Especially considering the recent decision by the government to fell trees in Mumbai’s Aarey Colony to construct a metro car shed. The decision has been met with strong protest from the city’s residents as well as celebrities like Shraddha Kapoor.

One user mentioned the uncanny coincidence. He tweeted, “Yesterday Amitabh Bachchan’s Friend had to travel on Metro and was all praise. Today Akshay Kumar did same. Next i guess should be Ajay Devgan, as per the carefully crafted Campaign”
Another wrote, “ Two Bollywood influencers @SrBachchan and @akshaykumar have shared their experiences with Mumbai Metro rides. Interestingly, They have tweeted about #AareyForest yet. You get it?”
Bollywood Celebrities on Aarey Colony Controversy
Ever since the government green lit the decision to cut trees in Aarey Colony, many celebrities have come out in protest of it. Actor Shraddha Kapoor is at the forefront. Recently, she also attended one of the protests in Aarey Colony. Speaking to The Quint about it she said, “I am a citizen of Mumbai and I wanted tocstand up against the fact that they hadcgiven permission to cut so many trees.cI don’t know if they’ll reverse it.cI hope they do. And I still tried to play my part in that. And my fingers are crossed for it because we need more trees and we need to do our bit for the environment as much as we can.”
Other actors who have joined the cause include Katrina Kaif and Arjun Rampal. Katrina opened up about the same at IIFA. She said, “I think everyone needs to wake up and be conscious about what is happening because now it has come to the point where we will start seeing the adverse effect that is going to have upon us.”
Dia Mirza, Raveena Tandon and Randeep Hooda have also previously tweeted about the cause.
