Commonwealth Games gold medallist and ace wrestler Babita Phogat recently got married to fellow wrestler Vivek Suhag in a private ceremony. Only her close friends and family were present on the special day. Amongst other celebrities, Aamir Khan, who played Babita’s (essayed by Sanya Malhotra) father Mahavir Phogat in Dangal, took to Twitter and wished Vivek and her, ‘a happy, healthy and fulfilling’ married life.
Dangal charted the journey of Mahavir, Geeta (Fatima Sana Sheikh) and Babita Phogat (Sanya Malhotra) as the Phogat sisters overcame obstacles to become celebrated wrestlers of the country.
The low-key wedding attracted attention because of a unique ritual. Instead of taking the traditional seven ‘pheras’ for seven lifetimes, the couple took an extra ‘phera’ to support ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’. The ritual garnered a lot of praise from different quarters.
Babita’s wedding lehenga also grabbed eyeballs because of it’s resemblance to Priyanka Chopra’s Sabyasachi lehenga she wore for her wedding to singer Nick Jonas. The couple recently celebrated their first anniversary.
