Ever since Aamir Khan has announced that he will star in a remake of Tom Hanks’ iconic film Forrest Gump, there has been a lot of chatter regarding his role. The Hindi film is titled Lal Singh Chaddha, and Aamir Khan spoke to a publication about how he does not have a problem with remakes despite there being criticisms about Bollywood losing its originality.

“I say yes to a script whenever it excites me. I have done remakes in the past too. It Happened One Night was remade into Dil Hai KI Maanta Nahi and Tamil film Ghajini was remade as Ghajini in Hindi. However, most of the time I work on original scripts,” Aamir told Hindustan Times.

When asked about whether it’s a challenge portraying the character when he is above 50 (Tom Hanks was 28 when he acted in Forrest Gump), Aamir said that each running shot in the original film is around 30 seconds, so that isn’t a problem at all.

He also said that the character of Laal Singh Chaddha will connect well with the audience. “The character is very innocent. He has a different way of looking at things and you will definitely empathize with Laal Singh Chaddha,” he added.

While details of the film hasn’t been revealed yet, there were speculations that the film would be inspired from the Babri Masjid demolition. However, according to some reports it is said to be actually based on the 1984 Sikh riots. In June, it was confirmed that actor Kareena Kapoor Khan would be joining the cast of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha.’

Laal Singh Chaddha is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. it will be directed by Advait Chandan, who earlier directed Aamir in the film Secret Superstar. The script of the adaptation has been penned by actor-writer Atul Kulkarni. Aamir also mentioned that he would be losing around 20 kgs for his role in Laal Singh Chaddha. It is scheduled to release during Christmas 2020.
