The release date of Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi has been announced, and in a very ‘mathematical’ way. Vidya released a video in which she’s saying that the film will release exactly 148 days from now, and then goes on to give another puzzle, that the total of the date, month and the year equals to 8. She even tried to convey the same using emojis. The biopic will be releasing on 8 May 2020.
Sharing the video, she wrote, “Get ready to be enamoured by her wit, charm & of course, genius! Watch the video to know when #ShakuntalaDevi is coming to theatres near you!” The film also stars Sanya Malhotra, as Shakuntala Devi’s daughter, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta.
Earlier, on World Mathematics Day, Vidya Balan had taken the occasion to celebrate ‘human computer’ Shakuntala Devi.
Vidya took to Instagram to share a motion poster from the film. “She changed the way the world perceived numbers! Celebrating the math genius #ShakuntalaDevi on #WorldMathematicsDay,” she wrote.
The poster of the movie shows Vidya in a bob hair cut, wearing a red saree and standing above a computer and a calculator.
The film will be directed by Anu Menon, who has previously worked on Amazon Prime Video web series Four More Shots Please!, and is being backed by Abundantia Entertainment, the production house behind films such as Airlift and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Shakuntala Devi earned the moniker ‘human computer’ for her impressive ability to memorise and compute numbers in record time, a talent that earned her a spot in The Guinness Book of World Records in 1982. She also authored several books on several subjects such as arithmetic, puzzles and astrology during her lifetime. Her book, The World of Homosexuals, is considered to be the first study of homosexuality in India.
