2018 seems to be a good year for women-centric films. Alia Bhatt’s Raazi entered the 100 crore club and now Veere Di Wedding, starring Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania is reportedly one of the top five openers of the year, so far. The film has earned Rs 10.70 cr on day 1.
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, the film is bankrolled by Rhea Kapoor. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film seems to be marching ahead at the box office. The all-girl ensemble is written by Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri.
When it comes to audience and netizens’ verdict, many are hailing the film as ‘bold’ and ‘frothy’ while there are others who are terming it a ‘product placement advertorial’ with ‘misguided feminism’.
The Sonam Kapoor starrer clashed with the Harshvardhan starrer Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which was expected to open at Rs 1.75 crore but the film’s performance at the box office is seemingly dismal.
