Disappointing, Predictable and Long: Twitter Roasts ‘Kalank’

The film hit theatres on 17 April.

Karan Johar’s period drama Kalank hit theatres on 17 April and the initial reactions are, well, not promising. Several Twitter users have called out the film for being boring and predictable and entirely underserving of its three-hour run time. Some have pointed out that while the sets are elaborate, there are blatant historical inaccuracies in the film, which is supposed to be set in pre-Independence India of the 1940s.

A few Tweeple have cheekily declared that the eye candy offered in the form of Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapur is Kalank’s only saving grace, while others have praised Sonakshi Sinha’s performance and wished she could have been given more screen time.

Given #Kalank completely reimagines the subcontinent — the mountains of Kargil are apparently on the outskirts of Lahore; a place called Rajputana has snow-capped mountains — there's obviously no point looking for historical accuracy in the film.

#Kalank is a GARGANTUAN DISAPPOINTMENT. Film is a visual spectacle which lacks soul, odious screenplay, lousy writing, confused characterization. Director & writers had no clue about what & why is happening in the film. Kalank is a tortuous affair. Rating - ⭐️

At first I didn’t get the setting of #Kalank. Like @duttsanjay was wearing a #Hublot watch and @aliaa08 was traveling in boat. Its good they mentioned in the caption that it is set in 1945 pre independence. But then what’s the use of such big sets and production? #KalankReview
