Set in the Indian heartland, Uttar Pradesh, Sudhir Mishra’s Daas Dev is an edgy, adaptation of the classic novel that turns on its head the original plot to be a romantic thriller that delves into the addiction to power and love.
Anyone who has seen Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi and Yeh Saali Zindagi would know Mishra’s fascination with politics and his proclivity for dialogue. These seem to be the hallmarks of this film too while it unravels the journey of the protagonist from Daas to Dev. But the trailer exudes an OTT vibe.
Starring Rahul Bhat as (Devdas) Daas Dev, Rich Chadha as Paro and Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandramukhi, the film also features Mukkabaaz star Vineet Kumar Singh, Vipin Sharma, Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap in pivotal roles.
We can only hope that Mishra has not lost his touch.
Daas Dev is slated to release on March 23.
