In Talks for 12 Films: Sushant on Life After ‘Kedarnath’ Success

The actor will be seen as a dacoit in ‘Sonchiriya’.

Sushant Singh Rajput appears to be a busy man post the success of Kedarnath in which he played the romantic lead opposite newcomer Sara Ali Khan. He will next be seen embracing a grittier avatar in Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya, a film that is set in the Chambal region of the ’70s and follows the story of a group of rebel dacoits.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, the Kai Po Che actor said, “I’m in talks for 12 films, I don’t know which of them will begin first.”

Speaking about the deviation from his conventional ‘chocolate boy’ roles that Sonchiriya will showcase, Sushant said told the publication,

The choice is usually between being an actor or a star, but I’ve figured a third option, which is just do good films without being described as an actor, a star or an engineering dropout. These are but small nouns that stop me from looking at the big picture.

He added,

I don’t contemplate genres when signing a film, that’s for the audience to figure out. Nor do I believe in establishing a connect with the audience which in time translates into a loyal fan base. That’s how an efficient salesman would think, not an actor. That’s not our core competence.

Sushant will also be seen in casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s directorial debut Kizie Aur Manny, which he reiterates is an adaptation of John Green’s bestselling novel The Fault In Our Stars and not a remake of the Hollywood film. Other titles he will feature in in 2019 include action-thriller Drive, with Jacqueline Fernandez, and Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari’s next Chhichhore.

He also mentioned that he has two other films in the pipeline — space drama Chanda Mama Door Ke and a biopic on paralympian Murlikant Petkar. “It’s for me to decide what to do next and that would depend on how my next film fares. There is no film that I want to do that I can’t do,” he was quoted as saying.
