Is a Rift Brewing Between Producers of ‘Stree’ Over Pending Dues?
One half of the producers of Stree, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK—aka Raj & DK—have been sidelined by Dinesh Vijan, whom they had partnered with to jointly produce the film under their banners Maddock Films and D2R Films, claim sources.
They had agreed to split the profits 50-50 but Raj & DK are yet to see their share of the money that the project earned. According to a source, the duo played a key role in the making of Stree. They were reportedly deeply involved in the making of the film, whether it was hiring the cast and crew, conducting location recces, overseeing the shooting or the editing and post-production.
“Stree is out and out Raj & DK’s creation. Whether it was writing the script, story and screenplay, getting Amar Kaushik (who had worked with them as first assistant director on Go Goa Gone) to direct the film or attaching Rajkummar Rao to star in it,” the source claimed.
They went on to add that Raj & DK were already in the midst of producing the film when Dinesh contacted them and requested to be made part of the project. Raj & DK are allegedly owed Rs 20 crore from Dinesh Vijan but haven’t received a penny yet.
Stree, which was released on 31 August, turned out to be a hit at the box office and crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in its third week.
Amidst the controversy, Dinesh has pulled out of Go Goa Gone 2, which was reportedly supposed to go on floors early next year.
